MLK Education Center

Lane County

When Lane County acquired the National Guard Armory to house a new court school, the austere military building got another chance. And with its transformation, the MLK Education Center provides children served by the Department of Youth Services (DYS) another chance at an education.

The design took into consideration the existing cast-in-place concrete building and opened up the interior to provide daylight and views while maintaining the attractive wood ceiling. New HVAC and electrical systems were installed along with new colorful, durable finishes and furnishings.

The classrooms, resource lab, and large commons area support the mission to provide high school aged students with opportunities to develop skills needed to be successful in school, work, and the community. Another chance might be all they need.
