Sound Transit BRT

Sound Transit

PIVOT is guiding the development of station design for Sound Transit’s first bus rapid transit (BRT) system that will serve both the I-405 and SR 522 corridors surrounding Seattle, WA. Design concepts were developed concurrently with branding for the new system. The shelter design features a common set of elements that evoke the system brand to maintain system-wide identity, while also providing the necessary flexibility to accommodate diverse site conditions on the two system corridors, such as freeway overpasses and arterial street sidewalks. Stations need to offer safety and protection for riders in loud noisy environments while also being suited for arterial streets near homes and businesses. Working closely with the client and various stakeholders, the team has utilized a variety of methods, including virtual reality, to share design concepts in a more dynamic and immersive way. PIVOT, in collaboration with WSP, is continuing to design the stations for the I-405 corridor through Preliminary Engineering. Service is anticipated to begin in 2024.
